Hooters Restaurant Closing Multiple Locations

Hooters restaurant is closing multiple locations. The eateries that are shutting down have reportedly been underperforming.

USA Today shared details of the closures via a statement from the restaurant chain. Subsequently, there has yet to be an official list of those stores that have shuttered. However, the site revealed that its reporters found locations shut down in Florida, Arizona, Kentucky, and Indiana. Nation’s Restaurant News reports that around 40 restaurants have been closed down thus far.

“Like many restaurants under pressure from current market conditions, Hooters has made the difficult decision to close a select number of underperforming stores. Ensuring the well-being of our staff is our priority in these rare instances,” the statement begins.

“With new Hooters restaurants opening domestically and internationally, new Hooters frozen products launching at grocery stores, and the Hooters footprint expanding into new markets with both company and franchise locations, this brand of 41 years remains highly resilient and relevant,” it continues. “We look forward to continuing to serve our guests at home, on the go and at our restaurants here in the U.S. and around the globe.”

Hooters is best known for its female waitresses, who wear orange shorts and tight white shirts. This element of the store’s marketing is as iconic as its food and service.

Per Hooters’ official website, the idea for the eatery was developed in 1983. Six businessmen “with no restaurant experience whatsoever got together to open a place they couldn’t get kicked out of.” These men were Lynn D. Stewart, Gil DiGiannantonio, Ed Droste, Billy Ranieri, Ken Wimmer, and Dennis Johnson.

The site reveals that more than 30 years after its first standalone restaurant, Hooters, has expanded to more than 420 locations in 29 countries. The company has also expanded its brand into the frozen food market, with products available in most Publix stores.

The new meals include BBQ smoked wings, dry rub smoked wings, Buffalo-style boneless Wingz, and Buffalo-style popcorn. The suggested retail price ranges from $7.49 to $8.99, per Nation’s Restaurant News.
